State of Georgia Home Security Systems

March 8, 2012

I work in a very technology heavy field. A good thing as I enjoy tech almost as most as I enjoy good food with friends. However, a recent trip to a tech conference in Georgia got me really excited about the future of security tech. What happened was this: I was walking around getting some SWAG (Stuff We A Get) when I came across a booth that was advertising the future of security home security Georgia (I assume it was the future of home security, but we were in Georgia). The video playing in the background showed a smart phone with the security app installed that was able to browse the exact time stamp when the front door was opened. Not only that but the system used a unique code to identify who was entering the house. So the user knew the name of the people in the house. It really took me by surprise. At any given moment, I could look at my phone and know exactly who was in my house. It made me excited because the day is not far off when I’ll be able to know who the person is, where in my home they currently are, and what they are doing. I found this innovation to go beyond Georgia home security. That may sound every big brother of me, but if I took on a major purchase like a house, I’d like to know what’s going on it.

Home Burglary “Bling Ring” Member Sentenced

November 3, 2011

In recent news, Rachel Lee, a member of the Hollywood “Bling Ring,” was sentenced to four years in state prison. Lee, is the second member of the group to be sentenced for her role in the spree of break-ins. Four other alleged members are still waiting trial.

The “Bling-Ring” was a group of teenagers that targeted homes of celebrities such as Orlando bloom, Audrina Patridge, Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, and others. These victims were chosen because of the high-end and luxurious items they owned. Before a burglary, the teens were able to not only research the celebrity’s address but his or her schedule as well. This is how they ensured no one would be home to catch them. This combination led to a crime spree that netted over $3 million in stolen items such as designer luggage, clothing, shoes, and jewelry.

The group was eventually caught after 10 months when a tipster informed police of Lee’s involvement in the Lohan burglary. In fact, both Lee and another teen were caught on a home security camera in the Lohan residence. While Lee is unlikely to serve her full four year sentence, a hearing will be held to determine how much she has to re-pay to her victims.
